Hysterosalpingogram ( HSG )

Hysterosalpingogram is done by injecting dye through the vagina into uterus through cannula.
And by series of X rays taken to examine the uterus and fallopian tubes.
In case of patent fallopian tubes, dye will come out through the tubes.

Hysterosalpingogram(HSG) helps in finding details about:
-Size and shape of the uterus.
- Any abnormalities in uterine cavity like uterine septum, fibroids etc.
- Patency of the fallopian tubes.
- If there is any block in the tubes, the position of the block can be identified.
-To verify the success of tubal recanalization.
- Sometimes pushing the dye can helps in removing minor obstructions.

Difficulties with HSG:
-Allergy to dye. - Difficulty in introducing cannula and injecting dye.
- Spasm of tubes may give impression of blockage-Exposure to radiation.

Sonohysterosalpingogram is done by introducing saline or air through the vagina into the uterus. By using transvaginal ultrasound uterine lining and fallopian tubes can be examined.
