Preterm labor - Complications

 Maternal complications:
Preterm labor can lead to many maternal complications like,
- Acute chorioamnionitis
- Postpartum endometritis
- Puerperal septic thrombophlebitis
- Adult respiratory distress syndrome
-Increased risk in future pregnancies
- Psychological disturbances.

 Neonatal complications: Respiratory system:
RDS(respiratory distress syndrome), apnea and pneumonia etc.
Cardio vascular system:
PDA(patent ductus arteriosus)
 Hematological complications: anemia, hyperbilirubinemia , vitamin k deficiency, hemorrhage etc.
Gastro intestinal system: NEC(necrotizing enterocolitis), poor motility etc.
Metabolic complications: hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia , hypothermia etc.
Central nervous system: IVH(intra ventricular hemorrhage), HIE(hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy), seizures, hypotonia etc.

Renal complications: hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, RTA(renal tubular acidosis) etc.

 Infections related complications.
