Barrier method of contraceptives - history, types

Barrier contraceptives: these are popular temporary family planning methods.
Barrier contraceptives are family planning methods which act as barriers and prevent the union of sperm and ovum which is necessary for pregnancy.

History:
From ancient times, people have been using many sorts of barrier methods.
Women used vaginal pessaries made of crocodile & elephant dung, pomegranate seeds, bee wax and numerous other plant & animal materials.
Later they used half a lemon to cover up the cervical os.
Similarly men used to wear condoms made of intestines of animals.

New methods: The original methods have been replaced by new types, which are of five types. A. Male condoms
B. Occlusive caps
C. Vaginal sponge
D. Spermicides
E. Female condoms
